Our History

Wonders of Hope was founded in 2019 with a mission to transform lives in the Kibera community, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and empowerment.

During her visit to Kenya, Andrea Fortino and her son, Niko, formed meaningful connections with local friends already dedicated to making a difference in Kibera—the largest urban slum in Africa. Inspired by their passion and commitment, what began as a simple encounter soon grew into a shared vision. This vision became a reality with the official establishment of Wonders of Hope as a registered nonprofit in September 2019.

Since then, we have been working alongside the community to create lasting change, fostering hope and opportunity for a brighter future.

Message from the Founder

Small Acts Can Make Profound Impacts

Welcome to Wonders of Hope. We are glad you're here to explore our website and thankful for the opportunity to share our mission, dreams, and purpose for the children and families in the slums of Kibra, Nairobi. A small act can have a great impact, just like a seed can grow into a big harvest. This is true for a person, a family, a community, and even the world.

Genesis 26:12 says, “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him.” When God gave me the idea to start Wonders of Hope, I asked, “Really? What can I do to make a difference for the children in Africa’s largest slum?” What I’ve learned is that it doesn’t take a huge act to make a big impact. Just like dominoes, one small move can set off a chain of change.

Every small gift, whether time, talent, service, money, or prayer, sends a powerful message—that someone matters. These acts can touch one person and then overflow to many more. Through these gifts, we remind people that they are seen, loved, and important.

At Wonders of Hope, we rely on the small acts of many people. Through them, we give children and families the confidence that they are not forgotten, that they are strong and able to face challenges. This confidence sparks a ripple of change that can transform generations.

I pray you are moved to plant a seed and help us reap a great harvest. You can be one of the dominoes—big or small—and help bring lasting change to Kibra and beyond. After all, great things are built from small acts.

By the grace of His love,
– Annie
